This sucks.

I've checked with the ESC. I made my calls to the temp agencies yesterday. Today, I'm hoping I can get to the library and see about looking through the Gaston and Hickory sunday papers. But man... there's just nothing out there! :(

I need to find something soon, before Sal feels the need to find a second job. We just got him registered for school! I want him to go. The sooner he can get through that, the sooner he can make a LOT more money than he's making right now, and the better off we'll be. But for the next few years, it's going to be tough. I need to have something going, but being unable to do retail or fast food severely limits my possibilities around here. I might have to bite the bullet and send out resumes to charlotte. There's a CATS bus that picks up in Lincolnton, so I should be able to get there and back... it would just really cut into my productive time, since that's more than an hour's ride each way. But the money should be better, and if it actually gets me a job... we'll see. We're not quite to that point yet, and if Sam gets here and is able to work, she's going to pay rent, so that will help a lot and take some of the pressure off of Sal.

Yup... got him all registered and he has his student ID and everything. That was a bit odd, to me. When I was in college, they didn't give you the student ID until you'd paid your fees, or at least had the financial aid in place to do so. Not the case this time. He registered, THEN got his ID, and we're getting tax and income information together so that they can take a closer look at his need for financial aid. If he doesn't get any, he doesn't go. Period. We just can't afford it. It's not that we're spending the money on other stuff... we dont' have it to spend. :P

And Diane found out that she can't go back to school until she pays back the money for the books she got for the summer classes she ended up dropping out of. I expected that, but man... she has no way to come up with $235 before she can register. No way at all. The woman can barely see right now.

Yup. I'm whining. I just feel so useless. Ya know? I'm TRYING to find work. There's just nothing out there that I'm qualified for right now.

I'm thinking that Workplace Spanish might have to happen. I think that my local temp agency would love it if I knew enough to be able to talk to the hispanic population that comes in for work. But right now, I can understand 'hola', 'gracias', 'de nada', a few of the numbers, and some of the names. That's about it. So maybe i should take part of my paycheck this week, and invest in a workplace spanish language tutorial or something. Anyone know of a good free one online? :P

Guess I should get going. I want to go scour the town and see if there's anything out there, but we dont' have the gas for that. :P If it's not one thing, it's another! Ah well... I'll make the calls I can this morning, call the library and find out if they have the papers available, then spend the rest of the day working on wedding invites. I'm going to proceed with wedding prep stuff as though I'm going to have a job in the very near future and can make the wedding happen! :P

Positive thinking, and all that...
  • Most newspapers have a website where you can read the paper for free. Classifieds are also online. I read my local paper online instead of buying it. Charlotte even has the Observer online. Just google your newspaper and see what pops up. Saves you a trip to the library.
    • I ended up doing that... saved the gas guzzler from leaving the drive-way. :P And I'm glad I didn't waste the gas... nothing in any of the papers that applies to me. And Charlotte's just too damn far right now. I'm not ready to start looking there yet... not until I'm absolutely positive that I've got too. Too far in the wrong direction, and with our cars running the way they are... not a good idea to go so far afield...

But I now have the classified sections of local papers bookmarked, so yay! :)
